Ermha Barwon supports people with dual disabilities
When mental illness is accompanied by other disabilities it can be more difficult for people to rebuild their sense of self worth and create more stable and secure lives in their communities.
Ermha Barwon provides tailored support packages to people with dual disabilities. The degree to which we support each client varies and is based on our clients’ needs and aspirations. Each package is individually designed in consultation with the Victorian Department of Human Services together with key stakeholders, including the support recipient.
The support we provide is based on a therapeutic alliance and strengths-based model. This means we assist people to develop practical skills that promote independence and hence the ability to seek out and use other community resources. We also assist people to build emotional resilience and confidence which allow them to manage their lives more effectively. However, when necessary, we actively advocate on behalf of clients who require the support of other services or government departments.
Ermha Barwon provides a wraparound service that comprises individualised support, case management and crisis response. This tailored, comprehensive approach seeks to identify clients’ support needs early and address them effectively.
Staff promote trusting relationships with clients in order to sustain the process of change. Using psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery methods we build a sensitive, understanding and responsive support structure for clients, focusing on their abilities, strengths and goals.
